Michael Skandalis, Forest Resource Technician
Michael Skandalis serves as the Forest Conservation Technician for JSWCD. He assists the upland forest restoration program with project planning, implementation, and evaluation to address forest health concerns, including post-fire restoration, hazardous fuels reduction, and tree pests and disease.
Michael graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where his time spent among the redwoods first sparked his interest in forestry. Originally from California, Michael has traveled and worked across a wide range of environments, from Midwestern grasslands to remote Pacific islands. Some of his previous roles have focused on nesting bird surveys, invasive ant eradication, and exotic plant management. Much of his career has been centered around the Mojave Desert, where he conducted monitoring for desert tortoises, owls, lizards, and rare plants.
Michael is excited to work in southern Oregon and contribute his expertise to the JSWCD team. Outside of work, Michael enjoys hiking and playing recreational sports.
