How the Board Works
What Does the Board Do?
The board sets the direction of the district through the development and oversight of the strategic plan, biennial work plan, and district policies, with input from the executive director and staff. The board and staff enjoy a productive working relationship that ensures natural resource stewardship programs and projects are available to all Jackson County citizens. How is the Board Structured?
In order to represent the varied interests of Jackson County, the Oregon Department of Agriculture has identified five district zones (see map below). Five board positions represent these zones and there are two additional at large positions. Zone directors must live in the zone they represent. They also must manage 10 or more acres in the county or have a conservation plan approved by JSWCD and have served as an associate or at large director for at least one year previously. All directors must be registered to vote and live within Jackson County. Board members are elected by the voters of Jackson County and serve a 4-year term before the position is open for re-election. -Summarized from ORS 568.560
There may be additional associate or emeritus directors who serve on the board but do not vote on board decisions; these directors are appointed by the elected directors.
